Spice of Life Series #1 is on Tap Now!
Chinook. It’s the name of a Pacific Northwest tribe, a type of salmon, a wind, and a certain Sixpoint staff member’s dog. And it’s also a type of hop, which is the sole bittering agent in our Spice of Life series’ first brew. Find it on draft now, and check out the graph above for the hops that will be featured in the following months’ Spice of Life beers!
If beer is the stuff that civilization was founded on, then hops are the spice of our lives. But with so many varieties of hops to choose from, we wanted to focus on the taste of just one, every month. That’s the idea behind the Spice of Life series — to get to know our spice. We’ve gone and included some rare gems throughout the year, as well as more familiar craft beer favorites, like the “three C’s.” You can see their different bittering strengths, and a breakdown in the organic compounds in their essential oils above, too. Get ready to geek out more as we introduce a new Spice of Life beer each month.
“By maintaining the same exact grain bill, and only using one type of hop for an IPA, and rotating that hop strain throughout the year—well, that’s a recipe for fun!” said Shane Welch, Sixpoint founder and owner of the aforementioned dog.
We’ve talked about the series on this blog before, but before the Chinook beer, Spice of Life #1, runs dry, we highly recommend getting a pint at Franny’s, Barcade (Jersey City), and bars in Philly and Boston. It’s got a potent nose of pure Chinook, which is pretty hard to describe.
Stay cool, and spicy!
