The Summer Ale Approaches

We thought we’d release Apollo, the summer beer in our seasonal can rotation, a bit early. But we didn’t expect it to be 85 degrees in New York by the week before! While spring seems to have eclipsed the city, this golden wheat ale couldn’t have come at a better time. With a clear, effervescent quality and refreshing flavors of banana and clove, Apollo is (almost) here.

We’ve got a trailer for the short video about the making of Apollo above, and on Youtube and Facebook today. You’ll see that the inspiration for this beer was clearly rooted in Bavarian heritage. While tasting and touring around the region of Germany earlier this year, Sixpoint Founder Shane Welch and Braumeister Jan Matysiak formulated their vision of the perfect summer ale. Much in keeping with the tradition of Kristallweizens — a clear, filtered wheat ale — they identified an authentic Bavarian yeast and used a 50/50 ratio of wheat malt to barley malt for this brew. This defies any previous beer that Sixpoint has released, including an earlier version of Apollo Wheat that was on draft two summers ago, an American-style ale. Our reinterpretation of the sun god’s namesake ale is clearly different, you could say.

Apollo cans will be available starting next Monday, April 23rd. Check them out in stores, bars and restaurants wherever Sixpoint is sold. The complete video about the behind-the-scenes will also be completed by then, so check back for the whole scoop soon. Until then, stay cool!

    We are in the midst of our 10th anniversary year and once again we are throwing our official hoedown at Kettle of Fish in Greenwich Village, who have been pouring a Sixpoint trifecta for almost all 10 years of our existence.

    In the "if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it" department, we will once again be offering complimentary Wisconsin Lasagne courtesy of Joseph Leonard and there will also be birthday cake. Please come help us celebrate!
