Mad Scientists Graffiti Art

What is the Mad Scientists Series?

To consider oneself a brewer takes a dynamic blend of art and science. This blend is uniquely calibrated to each individual brewer, as some brewers see the practice of brewing purely as a rigorous exercise of science. Movements are mechanical, and combinations are calculated. On the other hand, some brewers believe artistic inspiration is the ultimate guiding hand. For them, science is merely a reference point. Inspiration is through improvisation, and passion is the only premeditation.

At Sixpoint, the foundation has always been built upon solid bedrock of science. This foundation necessitates an understanding of zymurgy, organic chemistry, thermodynamics, analytic chemistry, and plant biology. These are the tools in our arsenal to understand the scientific phenomenon of cause and effect while brewing - without an understanding of these realms, we would merely be amateur gamblers. However, even with a complete grasp of these endeavors, our craft brewery would be incomplete. It would have no pulse. Because the quintessence of our creativity transcends the physical and quantifiable realm... it is Mad Science.

So yes, we do find the physical world fascinating. And guess what? We also find science to be infinitely stimulating! And yes, we love our chemistry set, and reading vintage brewing journals and obscure old texts in translation about brewing science. But at some critical point, all of this knowledge simply becomes inspirational fuel shoveled into the furnace of a raging inferno - a furnace that turns chemistry into craft, and turns the mechanical into Mad Science.

Mad Scientists Series

The Mad Scientists Series is a perpetual commitment to this cause, and an ongoing allegiance to our formative approach to brewing. In our first six years of brewing, we generated over 200 unique styles of beer. As certain styles became more popular, we were required to brew them more often, which crowded out the capacity to maintain our prolific creativity. However, we refused to relinquish our creative spirit, and the passion of Mad Science became forever memorialized in December of 2010 with the establishment of the Mad Scientists Series. Every two months, we generate a unique style of beer in the spirit of our formative years - a dynamic blend of art and science, at the intersection of craft and chemistry. This is Sixpoint Brewery, and this is Mad Science!
